Why is no one coming to save the US?

I did not expect this video to blow up. Where is my soundcloud?

I posed a simple question: why is no one coming to save the US from itself? The response came in and out like the tide: disgust from developing country residents and lifelong victims of US “help”, media recommendations from scholars and poly-sci lovers, shocked Americans battling it out with their puffed up, superior counterparts in my comments. Half a million people heard these words and came rushing to provide … intelligent discourse? I was shocked. Was this world peace?

In the American industrial rust belt, elders proudly explained the United States steps in to “help” other countries when their democracy falters. It is a primary excuse for the necessity of war on conservative media channels, a noble reason why rural Americans should send themselves or their children overseas to conflict. Americans help out, especially as the greatest country in the world. So therefore who is coming to help us now that we’re in trouble?

This idealism quickly dispells with a little reading, but growing up there was no internet or social media. The media literacy gap spans nearly the same void of geopolitical comprehension for most Americans. This scares the hell out of the rest of the world, subject to both our edicts and failures. We have to save ourselves, and after decades of blissful ignorance, we are ill-equipped.

My response was born from a stray comment, an angry remark from a middle eastern man. He was not abusive. You could read the pain and frustration in his reply, and rather than ignore him, I posted my first video response. He thanked me for “admitting reality unlike my peers”, which led to this video. In short, most Americans are ignorant of our impact on the world. Our media portrays vastly different causes and effects than what is lived on the barrel of a gun. Our ignorance doesn’t spare us our karmic consequences.

Correction is kind. To make a dent in the wave of alt-right propaganda consuming the United States and polluting its allied lands we must keep talking. This education is so valuable because it is honest and gentle. I learned people are willing to be corrected, open to new information, and are looking for answers from strangers. What a perfect time to be chronically online.
